After: “We had gone through a lot of style discovery for the other rooms,” Combs says. “Because this is a 1911 Foursquare home, we wanted to honor the history of the home while adding some modern touches with fixtures, furniture and decor. These modern touches should seamlessly blend with the overall tone of an older home.”

The bathroom flooring choice is a great example of the traditional-modern balance. “We used a penny tile, which is traditional, but in black, which makes it more modern,” Combs says. The toilet, with its minimalist lines and low tank, also adds a modern element to the space.
